Lindy Kramer has served as the Children’s Cancer Connection Youth Board Member since 2022. She is currently a senior at Johnston High School.
As the sole non-voting Youth Board Member, Lindy is serving a one-year term. In her role, she is engaged at board meetings, supports the CCC mission and vision, reports on teen and youth interaction, and offers suggestions for staying in tune with those audiences.
“CCC has done so much for my family. Being on the board is a great way to give back,” Lindy said.
Lindy’s brother Wade was diagnosed with leukemia in 2013, and since then she and her family have participated in Camp Heart Connection programs, teen programs, outings and more. When not busy with board work, Lindy volunteers at various CCC events, and over the past few summers served as a Leader in Training (LIT) at camps.
“My favorite thing about serving on the CCC Board of Directors is getting to meet so many knowledgeable adults. I am able to learn life skills from them,” Lindy said. “I also enjoy connecting with CCC families on a deeper level.”
Lindy said one thing she’s always sure to make clear to people is that Children’s Cancer Connection exists just as much for siblings as it does for oncology patients.
“Everyone along for the cancer journey has a spot at CCC,” she said.
In Lindy’s free time, she likes to ride horses with friends, attend horse shows, work with her dairy goats, swim and watch sports. The Kramer Family also hosts the annual Wade the Brave Golf Tournament, at which they have raised thousands of dollars for Camp Heart Connection programs over the years.
After high school, Lindy plans to attend Iowa State University to major in Agriculture Studies and minor in Spanish.
