On Oct. 12, 2023, nearly 100 people gathered at the Jeff and Deb Hansen Home for Hope in Johnston for the Gold Ribbon Walkway dedication. The guests in attendance were family members of those who passed away due to childhood cancer. They were able to visit their loved one’s gold-hued paver in the walkway, honor them and connect with other CCC families.
There are currently 230 pavers in the Gold Ribbon Walkway which bear the names of CCC children who lost their lives to childhood cancer since the organization began in 1988. Pavers will be engraved each August to honor any CCC children who pass away from cancer in future years.
Families and friends are welcome to pay tribute at the walkway at anytime. And, we must never forget the cancer warriors who were taken too soon.
The addition of the Gold Ribbon Walkway was part of the 2023 CCC Renovation and Playground Project. Additional landscaping improvements were also made during this phase of the project.
