CCC Receives Variety Grant for Teen Programs

Children’s Cancer Connection (CCC) has received a grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity to fund its 2023 Teen Camp and the 2024 Exploration Expedition program. CCC is a nonprofit organization serving Iowa families affected by childhood cancer. Since 1988, CCC has been providing unique and unforgettable opportunities, and the organization currently serves more than 800 families annually.

The Variety grant will be used to fund this year’s Camp Heart Connection® Teen Camp as well as Exploration Expedition. Teen Camp will take place Oct. 20-22 at YMCA Camp Abe Lincoln near Blue Grass, Iowa. It’s a weekend escape during which teens enjoy activities such as archery, canoeing and ziplining with other campers who know about the complexities of childhood cancer. Exploration Expedition is another weekend program which takes teens to a new region of Iowa each year to explore; activities vary depending on location. Details of the March 2024 excursion to southeast Iowa will be revealed soon.

“Variety – the Children’s Charity and CCC both aim to serve children throughout Iowa. We are grateful for this continued partnership,” said Children’s Cancer Connection CEO Jennifer Hines. “Teen Camp and Exploration Expedition bring teens from across the state together to connect around their unique and emotional cancer journeys with quite a bit of fun mixed in as well. Variety’s grant helps us make a big impact in these teens’ lives.”

The generous grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity enables Children’s Cancer Connection to provide these enriching programs at zero cost to participants.
