Meet the 2021 Fall Empowering Scholarship Recipients

To help with the cost of further education, CCC provides Empowering Scholarships for book reimbursement and tuition assistance to childhood cancer survivors and their siblings (residing, treated or diagnosed in the state of Iowa).
The Ockenfels Family Foundation strives to be a caring member of the childhood cancer journey by supporting Children’s Cancer Connection Empowering Scholarships.

Robert Berry
“I am attending Iowa State University to pursue a degree in Management Information Systems. I plan on obtaining a career in technology and business.”

Megan Ford
“I am currently attending Truman State University and pursuing a degree in Multicultural and Equity Studies. I hope to one day become a civil rights attorney.”

Emma Hutchinson
“I currently attend Briar Cliff University where I study Elementary Education with a special education endorsement. I am also on the Briar Cliff Softball team.”

Kathryn Jones
“I was diagnosed with a teratoma tumor as a child and have been in remission ever since. I will be attending the University of Iowa for Economics at the Tippie School of Business and pursue a career in law. In the future, I hope to defend patients against inflated drug costs.”

Kaylee Kleitsch
“I am attending Iowa State University to major in Agriculture and Society. I hope to be able to advocate for agriculturalists and the work that they do.”

"I am a Junior at the University of Iowa with a double major in Communications and Cinema with a Certificate in Arts Entrepreneurship. I have been in remission 16 years and plan to use my scholarship to further my education!"

Lauryn Kuehl
“I am attending Black Hawk College - East. I am currently in the Equine program studying to be a horse trainer. CCC has always been and will continue to have a great impact on my life. Without this program, I would not have made the friends and everlasting relationships with the people I have today.”

"I am currently at Concordia University Nebraska (CUNE) studying organismal biology and environmental science. My goal is to work in conservation for the state of Iowa."

“I am a Sophomore at the University of Northern Iowa studying Business Education. I hope to someday educate students on Financial Literacy.”

“This fall I am attending the University of South Dakota where I will pursue a degree in social work, specializing in child welfare. I am also on the USD cheer team!”

“I’m a freshman at Iowa State University, studying kinesiology to become a Physical Therapist.”

“Currently, I am attending Des Moines Area Community College and will transfer to Iowa State University to finish my bachelor’s degree in Animal Science.”
