  • Camp Heart Connection Oncology Camp

A week of summer camp is something every child should be able to experience. Oncology Camp allows for children who are on or off treatment to attend a week full of typical summer camp activities and so much more. Worried that your child won’t fit in? Campers who have attended before demonstrate that all campers understand the childhood cancer journey. In fact, survivors are often inspiration for kids who are newly diagnosed. Our staff is trained to be sensitive and supportive to all campers, and medical professionals are on site 24/7 to meet medical needs. Best of all, Oncology Camp is free to attend. • Camp Heart Connection Sibling Camp

Siblings are typically not the center of attention when it comes to childhood cancer, but they still carry the scars of cancer inside. Our Sibling Camp, one of the few in the nation, allows for siblings to experience a week they can call their own. It’s a place where they can reconcile their emotions and meet others who’ve lost a sister or brother to cancer. No matter the treatment outcome of their sibling, this week is theirs and free to attend. Click here for event dates.

  • Mid-Year Mini Camp

Friendships that were created at Camp Heart Connection Oncology and Sibling Camps are rekindled at our mid-year reunion every January. If children were not able to attend our summer camps, this is the perfect time to meet others and join in the fun of camp! Mid-Year mini camp is for children ages 9–18. Click here for event dates.

  • Weekend to Remember

For families who have experienced the death of a loved one to childhood cancer, we organize a weekend in April to connect with other families who have experienced a similar journey. A weekend of reminiscing, sharing memories and building new friendships — it is a very emotional and humbling weekend to help other families know they are not alone. Click here for event dates.

  • Family Camp

Since Children’s Cancer Connection mission is about the entire family, what better way to spend a weekend than at Family Camp? Every May, we provide an opportunity for the entire family to attend camp, experience the joys of camp and connect with other families experiencing a similar journey. It is the perfect place for the youngest campers to see what camp is all about before attending on their own. Click here for event dates.

  • Day Camp

Camp Heart Connection Day Camp is an opportunity for children diagnosed with cancer and their siblings ages 5-12 to spend a week with us at the Hansen Home for Hope in Des Moines. Half of the day is spent at our house doing crafts, playing games and having fun. The other half is spent on field trips to different places around Des Moines. This is a chance for parents to have a small respite and for kids to connect with others who understand what they are going through. Click here for event dates.

  • Leadership Camp

Camp Heart Connection Leadership Camp allows teens ages 16–18 to network, learn, grow and provide service to the community during a week at the Hansen Home for Hope in Des Moines. Leadership Camp reminds children diagnosed with cancer that there is more to life than medical facilities and thinking about cancer. This week provides a chance to learn what it means to be a successful member of the community and teaches young adults how they can make a difference in the world. Click here for event dates.

  • Lock-ins at the Hansen Home for Hope

Throughout the year, Children’s Cancer Connection hosts “lock-ins” at the
    Hansen Home for Hope
, a beautifully crafted home built in the 1870s. In addition to serving as Children’s Cancer Connection headquarters, the Hansen Home for Hope is a home away from home for children with cancer and their families. Lock-ins give kids the chance to connect with others in a comfortable, homelike environment. Click here for event dates.
